Lake Erie Lights - EerieGhost Steamship, Erie, Reported in 1800s and Recent UFO Film Clips
There are newspaper accounts of sightings of the phantom ship. Recent videos of what might be spaceships have been in the news and on the Internet.
In the 19th century, people saw the fiery phantom steamship Erie. In 1966, there were reports of sighting UFOs and aliens on Presque Isle Park. Current alleged UFO sightings and film clips on the Internet over Lake Erie are earning it a reputation as an alien hot spot. Ufologists are investigating these lights as possible ET spacecraft. Lake Erie Lights, 1867 Newspaper ArticleIn November, the Erie, Pennsylvania Erie Dispatch’s item was that, for many years, the light has been sighted in autumn, usually November. This time, the light was sighted around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29. When sailors and residents saw lights on the water they thought was a burning ship. When they went to save the people, they found it was an illusion. Although there was a strong wind, the glow didn’t move. The most dramatic phantom ship incident happened on the night of November 24, 1862. People watched it for about two hours, expecting survivors to row to shore in lifeboats. There was a strong resemblance to the real burning Erie. The ship appeared to be two hundred or more feet long. Flames started up in spires or sheets of light, then went from port to starboard before dying as if a strong gale was blowing. There were downpours of sparks as if the upper parts of the steamer were ablaze. The water and the sky were illuminated by the glow. Gradually, the mysterious light disappeared. Lake Erie Lights as Ghost ShipAn 1841, fire destroyed the steamship Erie, claiming two hundred and fifty lives. The ship met her fate in calm weather on August 9. There was an explosion aboard Erie, destroyed by a flash fire fueled by a cargo of turpentine. After this happened, sailors reported seeing the flames of a burning ship in the area, but found no trace of one. Lake Erie Recent Clips Possible UFOs According to an article, "The Lake Erie Lights," John Lasker, FATE, November-December 2008, Volume 61, No. 9, Issue 701, Aaron Clark, spokesman for the Cleveland Ufology Project, one of the oldest UFO organizations in the US, there have been more than 20 credible sightings in the area in the last two years. Over a dozen amateur videos of alleged UFOs are posted on YouTube. In March 2007, Sam Phillips filmed a UFO hovering over Cleveland that was shown on CBS national news. He posted two clips on YouTube. One video shows several pulsating lights beneath a reddish orange crescent moon. The other shows what appears to be two hovering, then merging, UFOs above the great lake. Michael Lee Hill made most of the Lake Erie videos on YouTube and has sold clips to news and documentary shows including FOX News, From here to Andromeda and Dan Aykroyd Unplugged on UFOs. Skeptics question whether Hill is pulling an elaborate hoax, like the infamous UFO Haiti video that was debunked when a professional animator admitted that he created the scam using 3-D animation software. After Hill posted his video to a popular paranormal discussion board, the thread took on a dubious tone. He claimed he pointed his camera directly north. One skeptic claims Hill's camera was probably pointing west and was, most likely, filming the incoming flight path of two airplanes in an S-shaped landing pattern. Two airports’ flight paths are over Lake Erie. The website labeled Hill’s video a hoax. He denies the video is one because planes have blinking lights as required by the FAA. The craft’s lights didn’t do this. Related Eerie Lake Erie ArticlesReaders may also enjoy Eerie Erie, Pennsylvania 1966 UFO along with Ghost Ship - The Palatine and Marfa Lights, Mysterious Fire.
